Question: My little girl has hydrocephalus and has a VP shunt. She has a knot beside her shunt tubing in her neck. She is having a CT scan today to see if the knot is fluid filled or solid, if it is attached to the tubing or not, and if there could be a leak in the tubing. Have you ever heard of anything like this and if so, tell me what you know? Thanks.
Answer: The "knot" which your daughter has should be evaluated by her neurosurgeon. The cause for the "knot" needs to be found and then appropriate action should be taken. Ventricular shunts can have many different problems but the most important thing is to take prompt action. To schedule an appointment with NEA Clinic - please call 870-935-4150
