i have had 2 back surgeries. One in January 2005 for rupture at l4-l5 due to terrible pain and numbness and problems dragging my left leg. I started having symptoms again in early 2006 and was again dragging the leg, having numbness, and then started losing bladder control. I had a micordisectomy at l4-l5 again. Now it is one year later and all the symptoms have returned except loss of bladder control. I was examined by my PCP and he said i have alot of weakness to the left leg, i am unable to feel much on that side, i have alot of pain in the left hip down the leg and my feet and toes draw and my leg moves involuntarily. My PCP also said i have hyperreflexia in the left leg. All previous MRI's have showed problems at 13-14, l4-l5, and l5-s1. However the bulge at l3-l4 was only on the left side. i recently had an MRI and it showed that l4-l5 looked pretty good after surgery outside of scar tissue, but l3-l4 had significantlly changed on the left side with nerve compression and was also now bulging on the right side. Also there is a bulge at l5-s1 and degenerative disc disease. My question is, after two microdisectomies, my back is still not in good shape and it seems as though the symptoms are not subsiding. Also, the numbness and pain are frustrating and affecting my life in so many ways. Would i be a candidate for a spinal fusion and if so, how successful is this surgery? I need to do something. This is causing me not to feel good and not to rest good at night due to being so uncomfortable. Thank you for your time and respones. It is greatly appreciated....answer

I have a herniated disk C5-6 and need a cervical fusion. My insurance does not want to pay due to a pre-existing neck sprain, even though this is different. If insurance wont pay, is the surgeon required to perform the surgery anyway? Or do they want money up front?...answer

My little girl has hydrocephalus and has a VP shunt. She has a knot beside her shunt tubing in her neck. She is having a CT scan today to see if the knot is fluid filled or solid, if it is attached to the tubing or not, and if there could be a leak in the tubing. Have you ever heard of anything like this and if so, tell me what you know?
Thanks....answer

Very sharp pain in right arm. Very similar to hiting the "crazy bone". Seems to originate from the sholder or mid inside of the bicep. Occures when reaching for anything or reason. Results are a sensation of shooting pain, feels like "Sparks" shooting out the lower palm of the hand. Always in the same location. Aproximately 1.25 inch toward the hand as measured from the wrist. Center is on the crease of the hand.
Began about a month ago. Was ocasional at first but has over the lase two weeks become consistant, occuring every time I reach for anything....answer
October, 2002, I had a VP shunt put in my brain for pseudotumor cerebri - after undergoing optic nerve fenestration on both eyes. The past few days, my shunt site has felt real tender to the point I can't sleep on that side of my head. I am having real sharp pains in my abdomen that come and go. It almost feels like the tubing is poking me in different areas causing sharp pains. Is this possible? I was diagnosed with irritable bowel in the past and wondered if this shunt could aggravate that condition, too. Seems I've had a lot more flare ups of IBS since the shunt was placed. I'm just wondering if this shunt could be causing these problems???...answer
