I am a 26 year old pack a day smoker. For the last couple of years I have been coughing up little mucus balls daily. Usually they are fairly small and a light yellowish color. Every once in awhile they are larger and have a rust color. Could this be caused by bronchitis due to smoking?

I've had a bronchoscopy to remove a broncholith. The procedure was unsuccessful due to the fact that the broncholith totally blocked a small branch of my bronch tube. As a result I have had about 1/10 of my lung to collapse. Am I at a greater risk for more of the lung to collapse? Is there anything I can do to avoid another episode with new broncholiths? (I actually coughed up 2 broncholiths twenty years ago.) I've calcification spots on my lungs probably due to the fact that my family had chickens when I was small. Could any of this be due to the fact that I've had rheumatoid arthritis since the 1970's?
Thanks so much for your input....answer
I have been running a low grade fever for over a month, having coughing spells so bad that I can't sleep laying down, now I am vomiting large amounts of mucous 3-4 times a day. I have been seeing a doctor since January and they have said allergy, then asthma, then flu. I have had a z-pack, medrol pack, cortosteriod inhalers, albuterol and even as many as 3 claritin per day. Nothing is really helping. What kind of doctor should I see? I need help and I am hoping a new doctor will have some....answer
I am 51 years old. Last week I began yawning repeatedly. Not that I'm sleepy because I'm not. I don't have much energy though. I yawn constantly all day long and feel that my heartbeat is rapid. I am also experiencing a little anxiety. Not sure if it is a cause or a sympton. I feel like I am not getting the oxygen my lungs need. This is day 5 for these symptons. Also, my sinus have begun draining and I don't know if that is related or not. Any ideas or suggestions? Thank you. Mrs. Smith...answer

My husband & I pulled up old linoleum containing asbestos in our kitchen 3 years ago. We did not know it contained asbestos at the time but have since been told it did contain it and that it is very dangerous to be exposed to it. Should we see a doctor for some sort of testing or are there any symptoms directly related to asbestos exposure? Or is there a certain quantity of exposure necessary for asbestos to be a threat?...answer
My father is a welder with emphysema who is also a smoker and has been for 20+ years and our local doctor does not seem to think that his job has had an effect on his lungs or at very least does not know the effects that welding has on the lungs. Can you tell me how much welding does effect the lungs and do you think we should try to get a second opinion from another doctor locally?...answer
I had Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome several years ago, as a result of double pnemonia. Everything I have read on ARDS indicates that it's very rare that I have no complications from this and have completely recovered. So many people are unfamiliar with ARDS.
